Invite birds and butterflies into to your yard with a rain garden, help protect creeks and waterways from pollution, and help control flood waters.

Presented by Derron LaBrake, Darby Creek Valley Association Vice President, Principal at Wetlands and Ecology with a degree in Biology/Ecology from West Chester University, working as a consulting ecologist for over 30 years. Derron’s ecological design work was recently recognized with an Excellence in Green Stormwater Infrastructure award by the Sustainable Business Network of Greater Philadelphia and Green Stormwater Infrastructure Partnership.

Rain Gardens in Berwyn: Making a Difference.

Presented by Mary Westervelt, member, Board of Directors, Darby Creek Valley Association.  Mary earned a Master of Environmental Studies at University of Pennsylvania and has served as Environmental Stewardship Coordinator at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Berwyn, since 2015.

Stream Smart House Calls: How Property Owners Can Control Their Stormwater Runoff.                   Creates an opportunity for property owners to learn about how stormwater runoff affect  the environment and how it can be better managed on their property in ways that will lead to watershed health.

Presented by Jayne Young a Program Manager at Pennsylvania Resources Council (PRC)  since 2010. Jayne is a vital member of the Stream Smart House Calls program which is a collaboration of 4 local non-profits PRC, DCVA, LMC, and EDCSC. Jayne is a member of the Hav-A-Rain Garden program, assists with Stream Steward school programs, and manages two anti-littering campaign programs. 

Upper Main Line YMCA  Making a Difference: YMCA's campus stormwater management. In Conjunction with a walking tour of the Y's  beautiful wooded grounds and their stormwater controls.

Presented by: Brian Raicich,Associate Executive Director Upper Main Line YMCA.Brian has led environmental education efforts at the Y for over 24 years, with the development of the Environmental Education Complex. The Complex includes the Nature Center, Micro-Farm and Barnyard, Raptor Center, STEM Lab, and the Cassatt Preserve, with 20-acres of protected woodland, wetland, meadow, trails, and the headwaters of Darby Creek. Utilizing these resources, the staff naturalist team have engaged thousands of children in the outdoors and sciences. An avid birder, Brian and the staff and volunteer team have identified over 130 species of birds on the Y campus. Brian also spent five years as an environmental scientist with Aqua-Terra Environmental, working on wetland delineation and mitigation projects. He earned his BS in Environmental Resource Management and Masters of Environmental Pollution Control from Penn State University.
